Most people will never know the frustration and pain that goes along with infertility. Even if you aren’t “officially” infertile…that is, if you and your partner have only been trying to get pregnant for a couple of month and you aren’t seeing any success…the emptiness in the pit of your stomach can’t be explained to most people. Most people will never go through something like this. Most people have no problem getting pregnant and many accidentally get pregnant.
The fear that you will never have a child of your own and the worry that you might never be able to do what comes quite naturally to most human beings can be overwhelming. Trust me…you are not a failure as a human being or as a woman or a man. Yes, that’s right….40% of the time infertility is caused by issues in on the male side of the baby making equation.
Most cases of infertility can be overcome quite easily and you do have a few options. I will start from the most radical to the most benign.
First, you can choose to adopt. I know that this is not even close to the same as having your own child but if it is your desire to be a parent then this might be an option after all other resources have been exhausted….or if you simply don’t have the desire to go through infertility treatments or year of trying on your own that typically leads up to infertility treatments then adoption might be an option.
Secondly, infertility treatments using an infertility specialist or at an infertility clinic is the option that most couples think of when the topic of infertility comes up. Treatments can be very expensive and the side effects of some of the drugs can be unpredictable. I have seen this first hand and I recommend that you talk with a few couples who have gone through this before jumping in with both feet.
The third option, and the one suggested initially by doctors is to educate yourself and spend a good year or more trying on your own. Relax and enjoy the process and find out all you can about infertility, what the possible causes are in your particular case and what can be done to rectify any problems that you might be having.
For instance, nutrition and overall health play a big role in your reproductive health. This shouldn’t be any great surprise but you would be surprised by how many people don’t realize just how unhealthy their lifestyle is until they are in just this situation.
Underlying medical conditions that you may or may not be aware of could be partially to blame for the difficulty that you may be having…or it could be a combination of factors, such as timing, sperm count and motility and even the Ph of the reproductive tract.
Now, you could research all of these variables and search for what has worked for others or you could pick up a book. These days one of the more popular books dealing with infertility that has helped many couples is written by Lisa Olson and is called “Pregnancy Miracle”. It has helped everyone from the couple that is just figuring out that they might have a problem getting pregnant all the way up to women in their 40’s who have been turned away by infertility clinics that told them that they would never bear children.
The book’s author, Lisa Olson, was one such woman who was told by specialist, doctors and infertility clinics that she would never have children. This is the same program and information that worked for her and thousands of couples after her. All the information that you might need is gathered in one place so you don’t have to search the internet looking for real, truthful information and in addition, the author offers one on one support for three months in case you have any questions about the book or even questions about your particular situation.
