Keep The Pace – Nothing comes off more needy and creepy than a guy who floods an endless stream of messages one after the other to a girl before she has the opportunity to respond. Try to keep pace with her and don’t overdo it. If she stops replying to you for a minute or two don’t freak out. She might have had to go to the bathroom but she doesn’t know you well enough to tell you this.

As a general rule you should wait ten seconds of so after receiving her message before replying back. If you are using instant messaging try to remember that many instant messaging programs have that neat little feature where she can see if you are typing something… and then backspacing. Think about what you’re going to write for a few seconds…which brings us to…

Spelling – Not that long ago it was almost in vogue to know internet shorthand. Times have chanced though and these days you are judged on not only your spelling but punctuation. This is one of the rare cases where paying attention in high school language arts is finally going to pay off!

Avoid internet shorthand. Things such as “ru there” or “cu lata” are probably not going to cut it with an intelligent, attractive women. Likewise, know the different between there, their and they’re and when each is to be used as well as “then” and “than”. If you’re text messaging she might cut you a little bit of slack when it comes to apostrophes.

Think – Think about what you’re going to write to her. Try to be witty and clever. If you are feeling more comfortable and you feel that she can take it pick on her a little bit. If she is particularly hot she may not be used to guys busting on her. By doing so she may feel that you are feeling more comfortable with her and that you’re fun.

Likewise, think before you type but don’t type what you’re thinking. You might be tempted to tell her that she is beautiful or hot or all sorts of things that you probably would never say to her if you were standing face to face. If she’s hot she has guys hitting on her every day telling her how hot she is. She probably has guys propositioning her every day too. It might be tempting to “go there” but it might be a dead end road that could kill any chance that you ever had with her if you do.

Keep It Short – She isn’t going to want to spend ten minutes reading your three paragraph message nor does she want to wait for you to type it out. Keep your messages short but sweet. This is supposed to be fun, after all. If you have a story to tell break it down into a few sentences if possible or word your sentences in a way that allows her to ask questions if she is interested in hearing more of your story. A sort sentence like “The craziest thing happened Saturday afternoon”, then the next sentence “I came home and found a squirrel had gotten into the house!” If she wants to hear more she will ask.

Focus On Her – People in general like to talk about themselves. Women, in particular, love to talk about themselves. Focus on her and ask her questions. Don’t try to impress her. Get to know her by asking her questions and focusing upon her and what interests her.

Of course, once you have built a little rapport and gotten to the “pet name stage” of the relationship it is not only ok but encouraged that you send her regular text messages saying “hey sexy” or “hey beautiful”. Remember, text messaging is easy and quick so there really is no reason not to touch base with her at least in the morning and night once she has come to expect your messages. Failure to do so is one of the biggest that women have concerning a man’s text messaging prowess and shows a lack of attentiveness.

Put Her On The Hook – Text messages that can be answered with a simple yes or no simply will not suffice if you are trying to use text messages to flirt or build a connection. Before you send your text ask yourself if the question can be answered simply yes or no and if so reword your question so she will have to think a little bit more. Chances are that if she has a couple of guys that she is interested in the one that captivates her will be the one that she winds up spending time texting. If you are the one sending text messages that only require a yes or no answer she will probably wind up not answering and will tell you that her battery died, she fell asleep or she left her phone in the car or purse.

An example of a poor text message might be “I had a great time tonight did you?” First, this is very needy but also it can be answered with a simple “yes”. A clever way of rewording this would be “I had such a good time tonight I want to hit replay and do it all over again!” Of if the food was bad at dinner, “The appetizer was good but I think the urinal cakes in that place were better than the entrée.” And then you have an opening to ask for another date with “next time YOU get to pick the restaurant…and pay.”

Follow The Flow – Try to mirror or follow the flow of the conversation when you are texting. If she uses a lot of texting shorthand like “ur” for “you are” you can follow suit. If she uses proper English you should do likewise. Internet shorthand is falling out of style and many intelligent women will judge you by your spelling and grammar if you find that she doesn’t use internet shorthand. Knowing the difference between “there, their and they’re” is a common test.

Frequency – If she stops texting you or seems short in her responses during a conversation it could be that she is busy. Try not to be an annoyance. End the conversation on a positive note and tell her that you think she’s the coolest or that she’s the sweetest and that you have to run and that you’ll talk with her soon. Forcing a text conversation can make you appear needy and a bit stalkerish.

Work on your text messaging skills. In this day and age it is a part of dating and relationships that you simply can’t avoid. Burying your head in the sand and saying that texting isn’t for you simply won’t cut it.
